The Decatur Howard Saratoga Block Association was founded in the 1960s to work with neighbors and public agencies to preserve and improve our immediate community's quality of life and cooperate with similar associations in larger community development.
All year long, the DHS Block Association works to build community and make our block cleaner, safer, and greener.
The association holds monthly meetings in front of 618 Decatur Street at noon on the first Saturday of every month. We sponsor social, charitable, and community improvement activities, which are an opportunity for residents to work together and mingle socially, as well as to raise money for community causes. Among these, our longest-standing tradition is an annual block party.
The DHS Block Association is governed by neighborhood residents elected each year by the membership. They volunteer their time and effort to help carry out the block association’s mission. From June 2022 until June 2023, the officers are:
President: xx
Vice President: xx
Secretary: xx
Treasurer: xx
To contact any of the officers, please email: xx
If you are a resident of Decatur Street between Howard Avenue and Saratoga Avenue, you are eligible to join the DHS Block Association.
New members, please fill in the New Member Information Form, save it, and then email it to xx. Alternatively, you can print the form, fill it in by hand, and put it through the mail slot at xx.
On the New Member Information form, you can optionally list skills you have that you are willing to share, for free, with your neighbors. It's a way to build community and find neighbors who may be interested in something you know about.
To help us all feel more connected to each other, we make member contact information available to other members for personal, non-commercial use only. If you prefer to keep some or all of your contact information private, please indicate "no" on the relevant "OK to share" box on the New Member Information form.
Membership in the DHS Block Assocation is $30 per household per calendar year. These contributions help fund the association’s activities and enable us to continue the care and maintenance of the block.
You can make your membership contribution by Venmo, check, or cash. If paying by Venmo, please be sure to include a notation with your name and address along with the payment, and send your payment to xxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com. If paying by cash or check (payable to “xx”), please put your payment and a note with your name, address, phone number, and the words “Membership Contribution” in an envelope and put it over the gate beneath the stoop at XX.
